The Middle Atlantic region in the Usa is located between New England and the South and consists of areas of Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington D.C. This region has been crucial in promoting the growth and advancement of the United States and has played an important role in the progression of its culture, trade and commerce and industries. This region has hosted most of the state capitals ever since the American Revolution including Washington D.C, Americas current federal capital. This region can even be considered one of the most affluent sections of the United States since it has 43 out from the 100 highest income counties of the nation.

Professional sports play a very significant role in this region. Most of these areas have their own professional sports teams that participate in Major League Baseball, National Football League, National Hockey League, Major League Soccer National Basketball League championships. Together with professional sports this area is also big on the collegiate sports front having a range of universities and colleges participating in the NCAA Division I,II and III games.

The Middle Atlantic Corporation was founded in 1912 and it is an athletic conference that participates within the NCAA Division III. This corporation is divided into three conferences, namely, the Freedom Conference, the Commonwealth Conference and the Middle Atlantic Conference. The 16 members that form this corporation are based out of the Middle Atlantic States. This association is furthering collegiate sports in the United States since its inception in 1912 with 13 members. This association continued to grow in its strength housing over fifty teams at one time. However, following the formation of the NVAA Division I,II and III in 1974, the league decreased its size.

The member team participate in 11 mens and 11 womens sports categories including basketball, baseball, hockey, outdoor and indoor track and field, cross-country, football, golf, lacrosse, swimming and tennis. They have included softball, field hockey and volleyball within the womens categories.
